Asanda Fotoyi holds a Master of Commerce in Economics from the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University, with her thesis titled Analysis of Revisions to the South African Quarterly Gross Domestic Product. She has a BComm Honours in Economics, and a double major undergraduate degree, BComm Accounting and Economics. Prior to joining to TIPS, she worked as an assistant economist in National Accounts and Economic Analysis at Statistics South Africa.
Asanda participated as a laureate in the Council for the Development of Social Science Research in Africa (CODESRIA) 2017 session of its Democratic Governance Institute, an annual interdisciplinary forum which brings together about 15 researchers from the African continent and the Diaspora. Asanda is also an alumni of the Thabo Mbeki African Leadership Institute (TMALI) and one of five "generation X" scholars who took part in the TMALI Emerging Thought Leaders programme in 2013/14.
