Rhulani Hobyani is a Junior Economist at TIPS, seconded to the Department of Trade and Industry (the dti). He holds BCom Honours Degrees in Economics from the University of Limpopo and is enrolled for a Masters in Economics by Research at the University of Johannesburg.
He previously worked as a Research Management Intern at the dti, where he was responsible for compiling monthly research update publications (ERPC’s Economic Research Monitor); collecting and circulating the latest key Statistical and Economic publications to all the dti employees through the Knowledge Management Centre; performing administrative and coordination functions for the dti commissioned research studies related to Local Content, Investment Climate and Agri-parks; and reviewing research studies’ deliverables submitted by consultants. He formed part of project team which developed the dti’s State of Foreign Direct Investment Report and co-developed the dti Economic Knowledge Portal as well as keeping it up to date on a daily-weekly basis and responding to user queries, among others.
Rhulani is interested in economic research and analysis in areas that include trade, investment, industrial policy, exchange rates, interest rates, inflation, GDP and sovereign ratings, among others.
