Fatsani Banda is an economist specialising in trade and industrial policy, macroeconomic policy and African political economy. Prior to working at TIPS Fatsani worked as a Junior Researcher at the Centre of Competition, Regulation and Economic Development (CCRED) at the University of Johannesburg.
She has contributed to the Financialisation, Economy, Society and Sustainable Development (FESSUD) project via an analysis of the water systems of South Africa for the Corporate Strategy and Industrial Development (CSID) Unit. She has also participated in the pilot SMME survey report compiled by Fresh Thinking Holdings for the Department of Trade and Industry (the dti). While working under the Chief Economist of the dti she provided economic analysis and commentary pieces to news agencies that were representative of the Department’s stance on economic issues. At CCRED she worked on the Barriers to Entry projects for the Department of National Treasury.
She holds a MCom in Development Theory and Policy with distinction as well as a BCom (Honours) in the same field, with distinction from the University of the Witwatersrand.
