The Emergence of a Research Driven Industrial Policy

The author discusses the reasons that created a wider interest in research as part of industry policy making in Norway in the period between 1963 and 1993. The paper argues that there's a close link to the emergence of new technologies, and to an ideology which linked future industrialization and welfare to the emerging technologies. It is mentioned that the Labour, technological research, and the defence sector had an influence in the promotion of the ideology of research driven industrialization. A re-industrialization strategy for small scale industry, large scale technologies and for R&D intensive industries are discussed under the theme of technology driven re-industrialization strategy.
